Writing-60 is a course offered through UC Irvine that students at any UC could take. This course aims to help students become better writers and strengthen their research skills. For this class, students can choose whether to research in Canidae or Aves. I have chosen to do my research in Canidae and more specifically, dogs. I will continuously blog my journey here and all my research findings on this website so stay tuned!

What is Writing 60?

About my Research

For my research, I will specifically focus on dogs. I will aim to advocate for their rights and research their overall intelligence. Specifically, I will post more about their cognitive abilities and why it's significant that we understand their capabilities. Ultimately it's important that we also advocate for their rights as they are more than just a pet but a member of our family.

Hi, I'm Giselle!

I'm currently a 2nd-year psych and brain science major at UCSB. I am super excited to be in Writing-60 and can't wait to learn more about animal science! Specifically, I am interested in learning and researching more about dogs! Click on this button      to learn more about me and this one       to access my twitter!

What I learned!

This course taught me the importance of writing, researching, and how to utilize the media to connect with others. From day one of my research journey, I was fascinated by the incredible intelligence animals have and loved learning more about them. More specifically, I was unaware of all the incredible capabilities dogs had as I learned how some of them can detect sickness in their owners and even be a lifesaver. Going more in-depth with their condition, I learned about the importance of their olfactory system and how they utilize it to navigate through their world. I also loved using Twitter to connect with my classmates and see their research journey. Overall, it was a very collaborative course and I loved that we got to use the media to post about our journey.
